I Am The Resurrection | St. John 11:1–7 | Bishop B. E. McAlister

May 3, 2026    Bishop Bruce E. McAlister

This powerful message takes us deep into the story of Lazarus in John 11, where we encounter one of Jesus' most profound declarations: 'I am the resurrection and the life.' We're reminded that Jesus didn't just perform resurrections—He IS the resurrection. This isn't merely about physical death and rising again; it's about every dead situation in our lives that needs divine intervention. The sermon walks us through the emotional journey of Mary and Martha, who sent urgent word to Jesus about their dying brother, only to watch Him delay His arrival. Sometimes God's timing doesn't match our expectations, and we're left wondering why He doesn't show up when we think He should. But here's the beautiful truth: Jesus waited intentionally so that God's glory could be revealed in an even greater way. When we're going through our darkest valleys—whether it's loss of health, finances, relationships, or loved ones—we need to remember that God cares deeply about our broken hearts. The story shows us that even the shortest verse in the Bible, 'Jesus wept,' reveals His compassion for our pain. We're challenged to push past the distractions and mourners in our own lives to get to Jesus, because He's the one with the healing touch. Whatever is dead in our lives today—dreams, hopes, relationships, faith—can be resurrected by the One who has power over death itself.
